COVID-19: Instructions to curb Misinformation

VON News- Amid the coronavirus scare,the whole world is taking safety precautions and fighting against the infection to prevent the spread.The IT Ministry has issued some advisory instructions on friday, to curb the false news/ misinformation about the coronavirus on social media platforms.

Many social media platforms were seen sharing false news or misinformation about the virus which created panic among people.

To stop the misinformation, the IT Ministry has issued a letter including some guidelines which are to be followed under section 2(1)(w) of the Information Technology Act 2000.

 

The guidelines are to Intermediaries are urged to initiate awareness campaign on their platforms, take immediate action to remove or delete such content.

 

The coronavirus was declared as “pandemic” by the World Health Organization WHO.
