A number of others were wounded, including with critical injuries, and the death toll is likely to rise, official sources told The Hindu, though there is no official casualty data from the government as yet.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday (April 23, 2025) said he had spoken with Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Congress’ J&K unit president Tariq Karra about the horrific Pahalgam terror attack to get an update on the situation.

CM J&K Omar abdullah also used strong words to condemn the attack. “This attack is much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years. I’m shocked beyond belief. This attack on our visitors is an abomination. The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman and worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough,” Mr. Abdullah said.
