Rishikesh, 21 June: On the sacred banks of Mother Ganga at Parmarth Niketan, the 11th International Day of Yoga was celebrated in a magnificent and divine gathering in the gracious presence of ambassadors and high commissioners from over 25 nations. The Common Yoga Protocol session was led under the blessings and guidance of Parmarth Niketan’s President, Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati Ji, and Pujya Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati Ji.
This year’s celebration of the 11th International Day of Yoga was held under the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”, emphasizing the intrinsic connection between individual well-being and the health of the planet. Yoga strengthens the body, calms the mind, and inspires a conscious and responsible lifestyle.

Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati Ji said, “When we take care of ourselves, we begin to care for the Earth. This is the divine message of Indian culture — Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the whole world is one family.”
He emphasized that Yoga is an ancient spiritual, physical, and mental discipline and a priceless gift from India to the world. The word Yoga means union, the merging of body, mind, and consciousness into oneness.

Pujya Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswati Ji shared that yoga is a divine practice to bring balance to our daily lives and enhances our efficiency in action. “Yoga is not just an exercise to make the body flexible — it is a lifestyle, a way of being. It harmonizes body, mind, and soul, allowing one to remain balanced in all circumstances. Yoga improves focus, patience, and decision-making, enabling success in action. This is the true power of yoga — inner peace amidst outer chaos.”
The United Nations General Assembly adopted India’s proposal for International Yoga Day on 11 December 2014, co-sponsored by 177 countries. During the session, India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Assembly, stating, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of our ancient tradition. It embodies the unity of mind and body, thought and action, and provides a holistic approach to health and well-being.”

This morning’s celebration on the Ganga Ghat at Parmarth Niketan began with the soothing sounds of the bansuri (flute), recitation of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, and the screening of a special video message from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The event included reflections on past years, wisdom from yoga masters, glimpses of various yoga forms, yoga demonstrations, and spiritual discourses.
