Nirbhaya case: Convicts to be hanged tomorrow
New Delhi VON News- A Delhi Court on Thursday, dismissed to stay the execution of the four death row convicts of Nirbhaya case, which is scheduled to be conducted tomorrow morning.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court has dismissed a curative petition filed by one of the convicts, Pawan Gupta claiming that he was a juvenile at the time of crime in 2012.
During the hearing, public prosecutor Irfan Ahmad told the court that Pawan Gupta’s curative petition got dismissed by the Supreme Court. He further added that the second mercy petition of Pawan Gupta and Akshay Singh Thakur was not entertained by the President.
However,Advocate AP Singh, appearing for the convicts, apprised the court about the pending cases of the convicts in different courts and urged a stay on the execution due to the impact of coronavirus outbreak in the functioning of the courts.
The Supreme Court has also dismissed one of the convicts, Mukesh Singh’s petition claiming that he was not in Delhi when the crime was being committed.
The four convicts are scheduled to be hanged on March 20 at 5:30 a.m.
The case pertains to the brutal gang rape and killing of a 23-year old paramedical student in a moving bus, on the night of December 12, 2012 by six people. The girl died after few days at Singapore hospital.
