COVID-19 scare: Nada to cut down dope testing

New Delhi VON News- Amid the coronavirus scare, where everyone is practicing “self-quarantine” time, the National Anti Doping Agency NADA is set to minimise dope testing of the athletes to combat the spread of the infection.

NADA Director General and CEO, Navin Aggarwal told in an interview that “the doctors we have in NADA are government employees and they work with us as part-timers. Whenever we need, we call them otherwise. They are already in the hospital. Due to the coronavirus, they are over burdened and so we do not want to disturb them for this work. So,we have minimised the dope testing. When it is really required. We will do the test.”

He also stated, “the testing will go on only for Olympics athletes who are on high risk. Otherwise, we are not doing any test of now. Due to the logistics, there would also be various issues in the transportation of samples and other things.”

Nada will support PM Modi’s “Janta Curfew” which is going to be observed on March 22 from 7 a.m to 9 p.m.

Nada takes help from the government doctors to conduct dope tests but all medical officers are busy as India is witnessing a constant rise in covid-19 positive cases.
