CBSE Cancels Class 12 Board Exams in Middle East Amid Security Concerns

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially cancelled Class 12 board examinations scheduled between March 16 and April 10, 2026 for students studying in several Middle Eastern countries, citing security concerns in the region.

According to an official CBSE notification, the decision affects students studying in CBSE-affiliated schools located in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The board clarified that all Class 12 examinations scheduled during this period stand cancelled, including the exams that had previously been postponed through circulars issued on March 1, March 3, March 5, March 7 and March 9, 2026.

CBSE has stated that a separate announcement will be made regarding the method of evaluation for affected students.

Sources indicate that the results are likely to be calculated using a special assessment formula, which may include:

  • Internal assessment marks
  • Periodic or unit test performance
  • Pre-board examination scores
  • Practical and project evaluation
  • Overall academic performance recorded by the school

The board has assured students and parents that no candidate will be disadvantaged, and the final evaluation mechanism will be designed to ensure fairness and academic credibility.

Meanwhile, CBSE board examinations in India continue as scheduled, and the cancellation applies only to CBSE schools located in the affected Middle Eastern countries.

The situation in the Middle East continues to remain tense due to ongoing geopolitical developments, prompting authorities to prioritise the safety of students and examination staff.

Further updates regarding the evaluation policy and result declaration are expected from CBSE in the coming days.
