Nirbhaya: Convict’s wife missed divorce petition hearing

Aurangabad (Bihar)- Wife of Akshay Singh, who’s one of the four convicts of the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case, did not appear for the divorce petition hearing in Aurangabad Court, on Thursday.

Therefore, the court has postponed the hearing to March 24.

Mukesh Singh and Punita Devis’ lawyer, told the media that ” Punita devi had filed the petition seeking divorce from her husband. The presiding officer was not available on March 16 so today’s date was set for hearing. The PO said that her presence is required on the date for next hearing following which decision whether Akshay Singh Thakur will be summoned or not.”

 

 

Earlier on wednesday, Delhi High Court dismissed the plea filed by Mukesh Singh, one of the four convicts of 2012 Delhi gang rape, seeking countermand on his death penalty, by claiming that he was not in the capital when the crime was committed.

All the four convicts are scheduled to be hanged in Tihar jail on March 20, 5:30 a.m.

The whole nation became numb, when a 23-year old paramedical student was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus on 16 December night, by six people including one juvenile. The girl died fortnight in Singapore hospital.
